RIP Dale. I met him once and talked to him several times on the phone. Serious but down to earth guy. Owner of a '61 SS Shop Order car.

Interesting that it was a two-tone car - Glacier Blue (light blue) with a white top. And the top trim was kept on it during the different paint iterations.

What 396 was in it originally? Manual or auto originally?

Successful Australian Super Stock Chevelle raced by Australia's Peter Ridgeway in the '80's, who went on to hold multiple Super Stock and Pro Stock national records and won many Australian Championships.

Kurt, sorry for the delay in responding. The was born with a 396/350 horse 4-speed. Bill and the Duffy's gang wanted that specific combo. to run in SS/H. Back in the early 80s, I raced a '69 Chevelle in the old "Pro" bracket 11.00 -11.99 that looks very much like the Chevelle pictured above. I know the car pictured here is a '68, but my car's colors, paint scheme and entry numbers are quite similar; I'll try to post a few pictures.

The father passed away a while ago I believe, but the son still runs the car.

The original Bandito has been restored to its' as delivered configuration.
The "new" Bandito is a clone of that car.
It was built by Tony Valerio Junior, who races it very chance he gets in the CanAm Stock Superstock, IHRA and our local bracket racing series.

A little FYI.... My Camaro is currently in the November Muscle Car Review with a little background and a few more pics. Also, I stumbled onto a fellow with several thousand vintage drag racing pictures. I offered to help him sort through the stuff, but j think he is overwhelmed. I'm afraid he is going to let others take advantage of his kindness and leave him "out in the cold" when it comes to money.

I just looked at the photos of "The Farmer" and a few things come to mind.
1st- I'm gonna dig around with some of my nostalgia buddies and see if they remember that name; I do not. "Jim's Automatic" kind of rings a bell.
2nd- the sponsor on the front fender "Racing Parts &Machine Co." was THE place to buy race stuff and have engines built in and around north Baltimore. They were located on Joppa Rd. in a rural area. A little outside of Balto. to the south was Coleman Brothers.
3rd- in the B/W pic in post #608867 at Aquasco, the opponent is Carl Hobbs a.k.a. "Super Fats". Hobbs had a few fast Camaros and did a whole lot of local stuff. He still has a gas station in Edgemere, MD, although I think his son my be running it. Not sure if any of his old cars survived.

Thats my aunt and my mother leaning on the car 1974. Car ran modified production with a 331,tunnel ram,M22 and a Olds rear with 6.14 gears. Car is restored back to original like Tom mentioned and i race the replica i built for him before he passed away. The car was a super highly optioned Y2 Camaro (Y2 meaning butternut yellow/black roof) with tilt wheel, power windows, fold down rear, 295hp 350, Muncie, 12 bolt, delux interior. Probably not a car that should have been turned into a racecar but he bought it in 72 and who knew they would be worth today. I have the original shifter and handle from the car and its now in my 69 Chevelle. Once i can convince my wife that i need another car and the money is available id love to buy it back but for now ill have to wait. Ive attached a pic of the replica.

I as well as many others on here would love to see more photos of this car if you wanted to share them? I got the photo I posted off the internet, Its a fantastic photo and to hear the story behind it is amazing....

I love this sort of stuff.

I can't believe that I didn't post these yet. I now own this car. It has been a race car since day one in Junly of 1970but it didn't start racing until the beginning of 1972. I have the earliest pictures of it being raced as a pro stocker,as well as a later pic as a gasser.

I was only about 9 months old when these pics were taken.

Re: Old Drag Car Pictures.........

Engine pic. I believe that this is the Booth and Arons engine that Ronnie ran. He says the car ran 9.74 during the 2 years that he raced it,and his primary reason for getting out of pro stock was that he couldn't compete against the Lenco drivers. I am not sure if he ever ran Jenkins stuff in the car,but he did buy it from the Wheatley bros who built it with Jenkins power.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psef664cf4.png

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psd17c85cd.png

Years later,a guy named Bob Demarco owned an raced it,I believe as a Gasser. At one point in time the car had a McBetts engine in it,but I can't say when that was. This pic is at Keystone/Pittsburgh maybe in the mid/late 70's

Dave,

There was a 1969 Chevelle featured in Hot Rod Magazine throughout the '90`s.....is was an entire series of performance upgrades that they were continuously writing about.....the paint scheme that they used was very similar to your 1969 Chevelle.....I love it.
