This is obviously a winter shot, I would say early 69 or late 68. Notice the WY engine decal still on the motor of the Blue Bobcat, first time I've seen one of those on a 69. And the huge Doug headers, caption reads they are 2". So big one even has to go through the fender well. Milt driving and probably Dave doing the tire pressure.

This is my favorite Royal car. At the time this was taken in eary 1969, all the Royal Racing had apparently been moved over to George Delorean.

I would like you all to entertain a couple of assumptions.
One, lets assume the engine code WY sticker was how the car was delivered. Two, then assume it has to be one of two possible engine blocks. Below is a chart from H.O. Racing, since the car was probably built in late 68 it must be either a 68 or 69 coded block. So what choices does that leave you with? http://www.azalea.net/~steved/yenko/enginecodes.jpg |

Pontiac must've used the WY blocks in '69 to put the RAV intake, cams, et al. I don’t know what this sticker means to fact, but it has interesting possibilities. Since it has a round port top end with aluminum intake IV intake, how do we know? It could have been a RAII carryover block from 68 with IV components added at the factory; could have been a V block installed in Engineering, and obviously some one would have had to change out the cam? Could be Royal swapped who knows what in the car, either from another car or something they got from engineering? What ever the nature of this block, it pre dates the Florida testing and gives the car another interesting part of the its history. |
