https://i.postimg.cc/6pM3YLqG/AAIANZT.jpg The northern snakehead fish, an invasive species that can breathe air and survive on land, has been found in Georgia waters, according to wildlife officials. Native to the Yangtze River basin in China, the species likely entered Georgia through unauthorized release, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. It has been reported in 14 other states in the U.S. This is what I did when I lived in Tamarac, FL . . . fished for Snakeheads in the canals surrounding my townhouse. Extra equipment that I carried was a big rubber mallet and a 6 inch diving knife. Also I had heavy duty fishing line and a HD rod because I had to lift the caught fish about 5 to 7 feet up over the canal wall to get it on land where I took the knife and using the mallet drove it through it's head to pin it to the ground killing it. I usually caught 3 or 4 a day. That's how bad the species has taken hold in the canals of So. Florida. They are a very aggressive fish and feed on all other fish until there is nothing left but Snakeheads. |
