Yes, an NOS bumper would not look right on there. This looks OK now that it's on there.
|
Buff it out with newspaper and coca cola to add to that patina.
|
It does blend well with the rest of the "shabby chic" patina...:cool2:
|
You can't get more "right" than installing the original part. The tow tabs complete the vibe. minus those, I might have left it off.
|
Completes the look perfectly. Every time I see shots on IG I'm in awe. Love this 67 and you've done a great job to bring it back to life.

I spoke too soon! This was sent to me by Bruce's son Todd. The bumper along with header panel and hood were likely replaced within the first year of ownership. Note original plate. This happened on his way home from Mt. Vernon where he won that day.I remember Bruce saying he was in an accident and he fixed it at a friends body shop. Todd says the guy who did the body work has passed.
|
Ouch.. A lot of damage besides the bumper and upper valance. Was he towing it with the wagon and all that is from the tow bar ?? Appears the core support is badly buckled in the center, pulling the headlights inward that much.

More photos of the bumper install. The bumper has definitely seen better days but I like how it looks. The accident explains why I found remnants of the white stripe on the fenders but not the upper header panel. Ths grill was also attached to the lower valence with hardware not rivets. I'm just glad the Camaro survived!

Bumper's great Jose!

Here's a photo after some repairs. The date on the top of the photo says AUG 68. There's more photos coming.
|
The date on film pictures was the development date. That had to have been taken during winter '67. Snow amounts like that in August in Southern Ohio would be extremely rare, if ever. Might be something for Pete to look up, record snow fall for that month/yr...

Here is a shot from Peninsula Cars and Coffee in Seaside CA today, a short vid on the way home, and a clip of the idle.
I met some really cool people and the car was well received. At one point there was a group of guys around the car, 2 of whom served in Vietnam. I told them about the car/history etc and one of the guys said that while he was serving in Vietnam, all the manufactures, GM, FORD, MOPAR would send representatives for a convention IN VIETNAM. Soldiers could custom order their car and the car would be ready upon their return stateside. This particular gentleman said he counted the days until he could return. Upon returning his father drove him to a dealership in Florida where he picked up his fastback 289 Mustang. I had no idea, these guys said they had friends who came home to some very cool cars they ordered. Unfortunately, not all made it back to take delivery. I also met another guy there Joe who said he "stopped" racing in West Salem OH by the 50s (maybe 60s?), he is 81, the same age as Bruce but didn't look or talk a day over 71 so it was cool the car had the Ohio connection. A few of the "younger" guys were taken back to their high school days in the late 70's. Some folks have no idea what the car is but they know it has a story. One guy even asked me if I knew how special my car was because he did. I like that the car can start some really fun conversations and bring people from different generations together. |

Another photo developed in August of 68 before the SS badges and headlight trim was reinstalled. I'm so grateful for these photos!

Dogfish bowtie
It appears to me the dog dish caps have the silver bow tie emblem. Lot of people say silver or black, Chevelle or Camaro ??? Heard it both ways.
Cool car man! |

25 year old Bruce Cremean and his Tuxedo Black 1967 Camaro L78. This photo has a development date of August 1968. Bruce would turn 26 the following month.

I thought it would be fun to recreate the interior shot from the 70s. I just let the love monster hang from the snoopy air freshener for the photo. Should I install an 8 track player?
|
Looks like it had some 69' Firebird seats in it in that 70's pic.

Rear wheel and tire fitment update. Rear tires rub under hard cornering just a hair on the inner wheel well with the 15x10 4.5" BS wheels and M/T Indy Profile N50-15s. The N50 Protracs I had on my Cragars had less sidewall bulge so when I installed the steelies with M/T tires I noticed less clearance than expected. Both N50s I'm running at 20psi. Instead of swapping tires I've installed GM third gen Camaro wheel spacers which did the trick. They are steel spacers factory .150" +/- .020" thickness which is perfect for what I needed. The spacers are GM part 14091902. I bought mine used.
Tomorrow my 67 is entered into a local car show. I'm going to clean up the windows and hopefully people will be able to appreciate the car. This is my first show where I actually registered and paid a fee. I'm promised a goodie bag, a sign, and a shirt? Anyway we will see what happens |
I wouldn’t expect Best of Show but the real Car Guys will enjoy it. Have fun and enjoy your day.

A few shots before the show begins/opening the hood. I'm enjoying this already!

Real nice Have a Blast Car!
|
Many years ago my brother had a '69 Z28. It was half black primer and half forest green with white stripes. It had a 327 in it when he got it. We built a LS6 and put it in. We had more fun in that car than any other car we have ever had. We didn't worry about scratching it or getting it dirty. It was fast and fun. Pretty cars are nice, but not as much fun.

The show was fun, most people made comments about its potential but a few totally enjoyed the car. 2 guys really knew what it was. My favorite car from the show was a well optioned unrestored 69z. It had the zl2 hood added years ago but other than that it was very original. The car had the original blue light radio too. Anyway as I'm looking at the car I ask a woman if she can open the hood, she says "my husband is over there looking at that car" I look across the lot and he's leaned over getting a close look at my car! We hit it off and that made the show more enjoyable. His name is Orrin Holt and he has owned some cool cars.
The other gentleman who "got it" was Dennis Murmin, he showed me images of the find of a lifetime a few years back involving a few BOSS mustangs, he sold off a few and says one of the cars is on the MCACN facebook page. He highly recommended my car be shown at MCACN which felt like a huge compliment. I enjoy driving the car and it still needs some work like a rear end rebuild and hood adjustment but I'm able to drive it with confidence. I hope soon to get some better videos while driving and I've considered investing in a gopro. Oh I didn't win anything as expected |

I swapped my M22 for an Autogear transmission that fit my needs as a driver with 3.31 ring and pinion and wide torque band. I ordered mine with the following ratios
1st 2.994 2nd 1.879 3rd 1.353 4th 1.00 I installed it just in time to enjoy Monterey car week! It has a nearly identical SLR (9.9) to a 4.56 2.20 car (SLR of 10.0) but I can actually cruise on the freeway around 2700rpm at 70mph. Peninsula Cars and Coffee in Seaside which is local to me had a special gathering for Monterey Car Week. It was packed with a variety of cars from 6 figure exotics, hot rods, foreign classics, and unusual rides. It was right across the street from the 24 hours of Lemons event. It was a great atmosphere to be a part of and a few guys really appreciated my car and many took photos. There must have been around 300 cars easy as the hotel parking lot for Embassy suites and the adjacent Chili's parking lot was full. I'm glad I got a spot! It was cool cruising around town getting the head nods, thumbs up and smiles from fellow car enthusiasts from all backgrounds and locations! One guy was driving a Lexus LFA handing out ramen noodles! That same night I took the car to a friend's small backyard party in Carmel where we all exchanged car stories. Tom Matano, the Father of the Miata was also there at the party. In Carmel, The streets were full of jaw dropping cars. At the party I was asked about having a video done on my car so hopefully that will come to fruition! On the way home that night from Carmel it was a bit wet with the marine layer and I had to hold down the wiper switch button to work continuously. I'm thinking it is a ground issue or a bad switch. The car also all of a sudden wanted to die after blipping the gas from idle, turns out the NEW Holley carburetor I installed recently had metal shavings under the primary accelerator nozzle that prevented the check valve from operating. I just cleaned it out today although I was a bit disappointed that it happened to a new carburetor. Either way I made it home safe and I'm really enjoying the car! |
Love these car stories Jose!! Good for you. I’m glad people are appreciating this car.
|
I had a AGE M23 in my car for several years with very similar gear ratios. My 3600 pound car ran 11.12 at 124 MPH with that transmission. I prefer the Holley carburetors from the '60s and '70s over the new ones.
|
Really cool Camaro, assume just the way it is, would be a blast to drive. Would get my vote over a restored one, anyone can bolt on shiny new parts.
|
Getting better all the time Jose....keep 'er going bud!

7000rpm wasn't nice to the Quanta belt. Any replacement recommendations that can handle the rpm?
|

Upon closer inspection some hardware decided to jump ship too!
|
With the hardware gone, it's amazing the belt was still on, after it's world turned upside down...
I'd get another of the same belt, since it lived and performed it's job that well. |
I just use parts store belts for anything that will see "action":3gears:

I swapped out the belt for a parts store US made replacement that had the least amount of labels printed on the belt. Took the car out today and everything works as it should!
I parked the car in the garage, shut off the lights which left the garage opener light the only one on and thought it really brought out the stinger hood. So I present to you Stinger Hood Saturday! |
Cool photos
Cool photos. Stinger hood looks great in that amount of light.
What brand belt did you buy? What store? Thanks, Marty |
