Dave, you're an artist, seriously. Congrats on another amazing build.
|
Way cool! Great visuals. So, were you instructed to turn left at the dog?
|
Thanks for the compliments, guys! I really appreciate it! I'm looking forward to getting this one on the open road. Apparently, Woj wants to borrow it for a weekend, but I'm hesitant. I'm not sure I'll get it back, and if I do, I'm scared of what condition I'll get it back in!
Cheers:beers: Dave |
Wait a minute, before you loan it to our buddy Phil, keep in mind, myself being a fellow Mustang owner now, it might be in real good hands with me :dunno:
|
Hmmmm.....true Mikey! Plus, whatever damage happens I know YOU'D fix it up better than I built it originally!
Cheers Dave |

Thanks guys! I've put 4.2 miles on it since being "done". Only thing I was having fits with was a leaky fuel bowl connector line, and it burping down to whatever antifreeze level it needed. Seems it's happiest about a 1" below the neck or so. With no expansion tank like the Galaxies have, the big top tank of the radiator needs some space to breath!
I FINALLY got my 8-track back. This took four months to tell me "Um...I can't fix it". And when returned, no evidence of anything being done to it...at all! PO'ed isn't the word I'm looking for...:bs:. I'm just glad it is back with me. So stay tuned for a future episode of "Fix your Old Radio". :cool2: I can't find anyone to fix it, so ill dive into it myself. I mean, I taught myself how to paint....might as well teach myself how to repair a radio!:rolleyes2::hmmm: Cheers Dave |

A repair guy recommended over on Moparts for doing 8 track repair and restoration.

Thanks John. His webpage leaves a little to be desired, so I think I'm going to take a try at this myself. In the meantime, some final details I need to nail down.
Bullitt didn't have backup lights, but wanting this to be reversible, I fabed up some covers that bolt on and use the original mounting hardware for the lights to boot!:cool2: Last thing I need to do is paint the rocker moldings. But the car just looks good with them and the wheel lip moldings. What took do...:dunno: 7 miles on it in 96 degree TX heat with no issues so far. More to come! Cheers Dave |
His "web page leaves a little to be desired"? Dave, are you seriously expecting a tech devoted to rehabbing 8 track tape players to not have a busy/quirky/self reverential website? I have every faith that you will successfully repair the unit yourself, but that website is pretty much EXACTLY what I want to see from someone who does that kind of work-it gives me confidence as a consumer.
|
Why didn't the original car have backup lights?
|
Very nice Dave. It just keeps getting better. Salute!!
|
Thanks guys! The car originally had back-up lights. McQueen stripped the car off all things brand oriented and along with that, a few extra things were done to clean the car's image up from a factory GT. His idea was that a lowly detective didn't drive a flashy car, so along with the GT grille being removed, the rocker moldings were painted, back up lights removed, emblems, and side mirror were all removed. The side mirror he used was a smaller mirror and mounted lower on the door, as well as being painted. Two rear valances were also used: a GT and a non-GT. In addition to that, in a few scenes of the chase, the antenna was moved back to the quarter panel. It's not like I watched the chase scene ninety times or anything...
My original goal was to make it look like the hero car right now with regular side sills and side mirror. I think I may be done! Cheers Dave PS: I get it Tom, but I don't want to be in fear that if I call to check on my radio, it might cause this guy to crawl into the fetal position in the corner for weeks, or go Postal on society! |

Trying to nail down this hero car look. 9 miles on it and no issues so far. More pics to follow....:headbang: I'm on the verge of getting the next project car!
Cheers Dave |
I think you got it Dave! Tuff stance!!!
|
Killer, of course.
|
I think you go it, except you need to bash a dent in the front of the hood. :D But seriously :Can-I-Have-It:
|
Needs a shotgun blast to the windshield. Winchester pump.
|
only difference I can see, aside from the original's "patina" is that the original doesn't have wheel well moldings.
Regardless, I think you did an amazing job on that car as usual. |
Thanks men! Yes, the lip moldings will be coming off and sills painted. I have the originals polished up and packed in a PVC tube for safe keeping. I'm thinking before I do the "green out", getting a pic of the car in GT trim for the fun of it.
Local Ford dealer still wants it on display in their showroom, but I don't think I want to do that. I'm fearful of what it might look like afterwards. Probably more damage and would look worse than right after the chase scene was over!:hmmm::shocked::thumbsdown: Cheers Dave |

To help promote this little know Muscle Car show I'll be attending later this year with the Mustang, Kelly helped out with a few photos to help spread the word! She also filmed me doing a little driving!
https://youtu.be/wouSH3AMWug More to come.... Cheers:beers: Dave |
Nice rumble. Great photo shoot too - that should get the word out!!
P.S. has Kelly done this before? :dunno: |
|
Hahaha! All in fun, guys! :burnout: There's a guy around here that has an 08' Bullitt that he drives daily and next time I see him I'll have to see about a few pics together. I tailed a newer Charger yesterday. But with those Hellcat badges on the fenders, not thinking that would be equal competition should the chase scene be repeated!!!.:burnout:
Cheers:beers: Dave |

Wheel lip moldings off. Think I'm stopping here. Identical now to the Hero Car as it sits now, which is what I was after. Think I'm going to dress it in full stock GT trim to show the "presto-change-o" ability to return to stock. :burnout:
Cheers Dave |
Strangely enough, those wheel well moldings really make a difference. Again, brilliant job.
|
Dave
glad you made the decision to remove the W/O moldings. I know you put a lot of effort into getting them on correctly. This look is way better! Paul |
Thanks guys. Yes, the moldings change the look. Whoever the new owner will be can decide if they want them back on or not.
Going to take the car out on the highway for some driving filming later this month. Cheers Dave |
|
OK Dave, you got on to Sam for not posting updates, so where are your updates? Is the Mustang completely finished? 8 track done? What about the next project? Have you bought it yet?
|
Mmmmm.....I see  In answer to the questions, the 8-Track will be sent out next week. The Bullitt is 100% finished, of course, minus polishing of scratches I seem to be putting in it as I drive it. I have 25 miles on it since done and so far, no issues. This car seems to really inspire you to thrash the crap out if it! I definitely need some Go-Pros!!:headbang:
Happy to report the next project has been acquired and waiting on paperwork/ transport before I post up. Fear not! Once here, another thread will be started!!:burnout: It's going to be the follow-up to the Beater Bee, same category, with an equally catchy name! It'll leave you speechless.....as in...."Why does he buy such pieces of crap to start with!?":confused2::thumbsdown: Hopefully you guys will enjoy it as much as you enjoyed my other build threads. Cheers:beers: Dave |
|
Can’t wait Dave:smile:
|
Hello gents! 8-track has been sent out to a fellow in Ohio that has a good reputation from a fellow forum member, so with some luck, I'll have it back in a few months fully operational. Just need a good 8-Track to have in there ready to go!:3gears:
Cheers Dave |
