Without the factory motor/trans its not a Z28 - just another modified 68 Camaro.

A car is only worth what a potential buyer will pay you on any given day.

Sounds like it wasn't actually a 68Z if it had the wrong motor and trans, was just another modified 68 Camaro.

Did you make $27,000 parting it out? if not, sounds like the smarter thing to do would have been to keep the car intact.

[/ QUOTE ]

Came out ahead around $17K and was happy with that 7 years ago. Keep in mind the factory motor/tranny was long gone. Therefore, it had lost its Z28 pedigree. I have no regrets.

Flame on!

[ QUOTE ]
There are more things in those photos that are correct than are incorrect. For starters, the first thing I noticed are the runway stripes. Almost every Z/28 clone I see, and sometimes even real restored Z/28s, the runway stripes are incorrect. Even the one's on my 67 clone are incorrect and I made the painter buy the stencils. The correctness of Redneck's stripes I have only seen on real Z/28s.

[/ QUOTE ]

I was going to bow out of this conversation but I keep reading things that make wonder how. How can you tell by pictures if things are correct? The stripes are correct? How?

Obviously the stripes you see were not applied at the factory. Look at the picture he posted of the car at his sisters wedding in 1986. No stripes and a 1969 cowl hood to boot. Someone painted the stripes on the car later on in life. So you are absolutely sure they are correct by the picture?

Matter of fact with the amount of parts missing from the picture I would say it looks freshly painted.

Don't get me wrong, I think the car is very nice and should be enjoyed for what it is not for what it might be.

Thanks for the reply, BillD. I really appreciate the info. I think my friend has enough info to go on regarding his old car. He's going to get some pictures to make sure no one has screwed up his restoration in the last 8 or 9 years. It was essentially a #1 car back when he sold it in '96 (for a little over $25K Remember those days?). Its been driven since, hopefully not too hard or stored improperly. At any rate, I don't think too many people are writing checks for $50K+ on these cars, at least not yet.

Redneck. Central Chevy sounded familiar to me and I pulled the documents on my 68Z. That is where my car came from. Is it still in business? Thanks, Bill D

This Central Chevy was in Columbia SC. and no they're no longer there I called today

[/ QUOTE ]

Central Chevrolet just moved a year or so ago to northeast columbia and their name is now Capitol Chevrolet. Their old lot is still there though.

And BTW a 68 corvette bronze Z/28 with a, I heard https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif a restamped 302 went for 59,400 at Atlantic City in February. It was (is) a very nice car! So 68's are increasing steadly in value even if they are not ALL original.

You mean this one, or is this just another 68 corvette Bronze Z28 with a restamped engine:

Note that the engine pad has the body number, not the VIN stamped on it, duhh!
