Marlin..Good call on the Metal-ax machine. I'm surprised you know about that machine, most people don't. Back in the late 90s I was helping Paul Pfaff Racing Engines with some Pro Stock development and he just purchased one. I would vibrate Titanium valves and they would cut like butter! I always use that procedure on (Green, New) blocks ,heads ect. But the old stuff with all the heat cycles don't seem to move much.

TAZ, I have not check any OEM Olds Assembly's.

That should be a yellow decal with a two letter code. On manual boxes it is a yellow two letter stamp. At least based on my experience.

Hey Doug,

thank you for the comments, we are washing all parts with soap and water to carefully check for any and all markings, we will document everything. We did this with the Block, but saw nothing, however while Kenny was machining the block, the oils etc have brought out what appears to be some kind of marking in yellow on the side of the block ... a 5 or 6 or maybe even a yellow X ?

Marlin the springs are absolutely original, we will get pictures of both sides when we take them apart and share with you.

The power steering has a yellow decal, not paint.

The yellow on the sides of the block will likely be the engine application code of 'CTC', typically written on both sides, in yellow crayon, upside down.

I agree with you Ken, putting a block through the metal ax procedure after so many heat cycles normally doesn't 'relax' it very much but mine had a little bit of stress in it per the graph printout I received. In theory, I probably should have metal ax'd it after the machining was done....
