I got lucky last week finding this '68 L79 Convertible parked for 48 years. Plates were last registered in 1981 but the last oil change and service receipts were in late 1978 Odometer is hooked up and works and the car shows two miles from the last oil change to where it is currently. Car was purchased off of a used car lot in 1977 by a Ms. Ramsey. She drove the car for about a year and a half and then parked it after some clutch trouble.

It retains its numbers matching drivetrain. It wears one repaint in a non factory blue.

Tank sticker was intact and shows some neat options.

P01 wheel covers

Tinted Glass

N11 Offroad Exh

M20

L79 327/350hp

Std Black top

Std Black interior

Safari yellow.

G81 3.??

Not totally sure on rear gear yet as the code on the rear isn't readable and the tank sticker isn't legible in that area but with an M20 it could've been equipped with either 3.36 or 3.55 and based off the drive shaft rotation it seems to be a 3.55.

Intake, carb, hood and alt are incorrect but the rest of the components are original to the car including the shocks. Seats and glove box i don't think are original to the car due to the headrests not on the tank sheet and no pockets available in '68 glove box. We did find some old grocery receipts from 1969 and a parking ticket that we pieced together from 1972. The car was never full cleaned out so there was some neat paperwork hiding under the seats.

Working on what the plan of attack is, borescope shows two cylinders with some scale and the engine is stuck. I've started soaking it, but with the clutch issues it seems it might be best course if action to pull the engine and trans go through it.

Greetings fellow Yenkonians!

Yes, I’ve been quiet as of late. Lots going on with parents, Alzheimer’s, Assited Living and Memory Care. But, I’m hoping things start calming down and as Woj would say, the nuclear fission resumes for me!

There’s been a few changes in the hangar, and this just fell in my lap from a fellow instructor that wanted to sell it for his dad. Being the entrepreneurial bid nit man that I am, I swooped in snagged it up! His dad was under the impression (and how it was advertised over 25yrs ago) as a real Fuelie 65 Coupe. I bought it for what it was, it for what I thought it was supposed to be. It’s not the original driveline with a 70 350, a 65 transmission from who knows what, and a 63 4.11 rear. Lots of new parts and an amateur resto done on it. Paint is…meh….some issues, but it isn’t overly bad. I don’t think it knows what it wants to be when it grows up: 65 coupe, 66 seat covers, 67 bolt on knock offs.:confused2: But lots new: suspension, rear control arms, interior, etc. so what’s one to do with this? Well, glad you asked!:scholar:

I’m planning a 5spd swap, add AC, fuel injection, gold lines with caps and possible change the interior to Saddle. And it begins today!:burnout:

So stay tuned, more to come!!

Cheers:beers:

Bought this LS7 motor yesterday and thought to share some pics of the paint marks and ink stamps on the NOS block. It's GM part #3965774 which is the over the counter long block 454 LS7 motor. This one was squirreled away in a private collection of engines and parts and I was excited to score this one.

Haven't decided exactly what I'll do with it just yet but leaning towards another Day 2 build with this serving as the foundation. Maybe clear coat the block and heads to preserve the ink stamps and markings. It came with the NOS 990 heads, tin work, flywheel and balancer, and the seller threw in a Tarantula TM-2R intake and 4296 Holley #3955205 Carburetor to go along with it.

It should make some decent power. :naughty:
